CEU Course Descriptions

In this course we explore the divide that currently exists in the adoption of active learning spaces, the default connection and personalization of learning made possible by the widely adopted, nearly ubiquitous use of technology, and then explore examples of total participation, in which we discuss the interwoven relationship between students, faculty, and space. We will explore living examples that are inspiring positive and disruptive change in the future of learning, and fundamentally champion a mindset that open and immersive dialogues with other citizens of education will result in a connected community of leaders.

In our ongoing research of current trends in higher education, we see a new culture emerging. Factors such as technology, changing student demographics, and economics all play a role in shaping this new culture. Increasing our knowledge through research has been part of the Herman Miller culture for decades, and this focus has prompted us to study the outlook for learning and the implications this may have for students, faculty, and administrators. We have identified five certainties – five key predictions about the future of learning based on our research to help you prepare for what’s coming. This course will describe each certainty and its impact on people, pedagogy, and place within campus environments.
