Information for Submitting an Abstract

  • There are four main themes for the Technical Program:
    1. Basin Evaluation in Minerals and Hydrocarbon Exploration Topics for abstracts can include results/research on Critical Mineral Deposits in the U.S., Tectonic Evolution of the Eastern U.S., Ordovician Conventional and Unconventional Reservoirs, Innovative Seismic Interpretations, Geochemistry and Chemostratigraphy in Basin Evolution, New Insights in using Remote Sensing Techniques, Exploring for Mississippian Hydrocarbon Reservoirs, etc. This is a broad category that covers any new insights into exploration and evaluation of hydrocarbons and critical minerals.
    2. Reservoir Characterization and Modeling Topics for abstracts can include results/research on Carbonate Rock Properties and Reservoir Performance Prediction, Effective Interpretation Techniques using Pressure and Drill-Stem Tests, Reservoir Compartmentalization, Insights into Unconventional Reservoirs: Marcellus, Utica, and Antrim Shales, etc. This theme covers results/research in understanding reservoir characterization and performance in the subsurface.
    3. Production, Completion, and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Techniques Topics for abstracts can include results/research into Efficient Completions in Thin Pay Zones, Innovative Stimulation Techniques, Effects of Water Salinity and Composition on Production, Effective Water-Flood Designs, New EOR Technologies and Methodologies, Petrophysics and Hydraulic Fractures, etc. This theme covers results/research on increasing recovery efficiencies and improving production performance.
    4. Hydrocarbon (HC) Gas Storage and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Topics for abstracts can include Effective Techniques of Withdrawal/Injection in HC Gas Storage, Best Practices in Underground HC Gas Storage, Saline Reservoirs in CCS, Mineral Carbonation in CO2 Sequestration, Regulatory Issues Regarding Underground HC Gas Storage, Modeling of Injected CO2 in Deep Reservoirs, etc. This is a broad category covering many aspects of both HC and CCS Storage.
  • All abstracts will be reviewed for clarity, appropriate content for themed category, clear results and conclusions, and clearly stated methodology to support conclusions. No overt promotion of company or proprietary techniques are to be included in abstract. If abstract is deemed to include promotional material, the abstract will be rejected.
  • In filling out the abstract submittal form, please state a preference for oral or poster presentation, or indicate either format would be acceptable. For student research to be included in the Student Expo on Sunday, all abstracts will be accepted for poster presentation.
  • Please submit abstract using online submittal form. Please upload abstract in pdf format, using 11pt, arial font, with the body of abstract single-spaced. Total characters with spaces should not exceed 2500. Title is not included in character count. Title should precede body of abstract using both upper and lowercase letters, font should be Bold, and title should have a left margin alignment.
  • Speaker/Presenter kits will be sent out to all accepted authors, both poster and oral. For oral presentation, all presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint, with slides created in the 16:9 (wide-screen) aspect ratio.
  • Please upload abstract in the following format: primaryspeakername_abbreviatedtitle.pdf
