Welcome to Our Teaching and Learning Community

The "Lincoln Legacy Teaching and Learning Community" (or LLTLC) is the successor to the "Faculty Summer Institute" (or FSI), which for a quarter century hosted an annual conference of educators and instructional-technology professionals. Each May, participants came to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from across Illinois and as far away as Canada. We may have changed our name, but we remain focused on innovation in teaching and learning through smart pedagogies and the thoughtful use of educational technologies, friendly networking, and hands-on training.

Formerly FSI: Faculty Summer Institute
2024 Conference: 20-21 May at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign, IL
25+ Years Supporting and Connecting Instructors & Teaching and Learning Professionals

Conference presenters are encouraged to share their experiences and teaching methods using active learning, participant discussion and hands-on activities. Networking is a fundamental component of LLTLC, and there are many opportunities for social engagement during receptions, scheduled activities, and concurrent sessions.

For more about us, please vist the "About" page, and for more about our 2024 Conference, please read below.
Potential presenters are invited to respond to our "Call for Proposals," and potential exhibitors are invited to respond to our "Exhibitors Prospectus."

Present at the Conference

We will consider several types of sessions this year: workshops, lightning talks, roundtables, and hands-on table-top activities. Successful proposals will have a solid foundation in established pedagogies, research-supported practices, and/or professional experiences.

As always, we welcome proposals to address any important issues and concerns in contemporary education, but this year we are focusing on three themes:

  • Generative AI That Supports Student Learning: How is AI being used to enhance and support student learning? We look forward to sessions about chatbots, debate coaching, prompt engineering, and similar topics.
  • Online Learning's New Challenges: We are facing new requirements, from Title II Accessibility to RSI (Regular and Substantive Interaction) mandates. What are some of the challenges we face in our online and hybrid learning, and how can we rise to meet them?
  • What's So Funny About Playful, Reflective, Slow Learning?: In the midst of all the new-fangled technologies and modalities, what are educators doing to cultivate good old-fashioned approaches to learning?

We welcome potential presenters to join us: Please visit our Presenters CFP (Call for Proposals) page for more details. (We are accepting proposals until 26 April 2024.)
