Early in 1996, the Presidents and Chancellors of Illinois public universities requested support from the Illinois Board of Higher Education for an Interinstitutional Faculty Summer Institute on Learning Technologies. The idea was to accomplish together what would be less efficient and effective for each campus to do alone. IBHE is funding the Institute through the HECA program.
Faculty members from across Illinois have come together on the Urbana campus to collaborate on the integration of networked information technologies into the curriculum. Each campus has sent a team of faculty members and instructional support personnel to the Institute. The Institute will:
- introduce faculty members to the use of learning technologies, such as the World Wide Web and asynchronous conferencing, and
- create a network for sharing in the development of the curriculum and use of learning technologies.
