Call for Proposals

The 2017 inaugural Health Communication Barriers, Breakthroughs, and Best Practices (HCB3) Conference sponsored by the HCOM Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will showcase scholarly and professional research on the relationship between technology and electronically mediated communication in healthcare. This state-of-the-art, 100% online conference welcomes participation and attendance from professionals in all areas of healthcare, particularly those with interest in the intersections between technology and patient experiences, health literacy, provider-patient communication, cultural health communication, e-health accessibility, and application of theory to real-world practice.

We encourage educators, graduate students, postdoctoral students, researchers, and professionals of all healthcare fields to submit abstracts and presentation proposals for this conference. There is no registration fee.

As HCB3 is 100% online and asynchronous, we will be utilizing Prezi technology to create a dynamic and interactive conference community. Prospective authors may submit their proposals through our electronic submission process by December 15, 2016 (If you need more time, please contact us.). Links to full Prezi presentations are due by February 20, 2017.

All proposals will be reviewed by the HCB3 submission committee. Proposals that meet the qualifications (see submission page for further details) will be accepted to the conference. During the conference, each presentation will be rated by conference attendees. There will be an award given to the top 10 best presentations (determined by number of views and average rating), and the authors of those presentations will be asked to attend a live online Q&A session with viewers to discuss their research in early April 2017.
