General Information

If you attended FSI 2016, please kindly take a minute to complete the conference evaluation form. Thank you!

Announcement: Due to the Illinois budget crisis, this year’s FSI will only be offered on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 11:30 am–5:30 pm. We are doing our best to carry on in a feasible manner, and we look forward to the return of a "traditional” FSI in the future. If you submitted a proposal, please know that all proposals will be reviewed in a timely manner, and you will be notified of any changes to the session and poster formats. If you are not able to attend on Tuesday and wish to withdraw your submission, please contact Michelle Marquart as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing you on May 24th!

About FSI

The Faculty Summer Institute (FSI) is a three-day conference that brings faculty members and instructional-technology professionals together each May at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Attendees come from across Illinois and as far away as Canada. The conference features keynote presentations, networking, and hands-on training on the use of modern communication and information technologies in higher education.

Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and teaching methods in person and virtually. Networking is a main component of the Faculty Summer Institute, and there are many opportunities for social engagement during receptions, scheduled activities, and concurrent sessions.

FSI was founded between 1996-1997 when the Presidents and Chancellors of Illinois public universities called for the development of an Inter-institutional Faculty Summer Institute on Learning Technologies. Since then, this popular conference has been supported by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, directed by a succession of steering committees, and enjoyed by all who appreciate the ideas and information shared at this annual event.

Attendees are encouraged to spread the word virtually before, during, and after the conference via Twitter (#fsi2016), Facebook, and any other social media sites.

FSI Turns 20!

The first FSI took place in 1997, so this marks the 20th year of the conference! We are planning some fun things to celebrate and hope you will join us. A lot has changed in 20 years!
